Welcome to Ilê Axé, a school of capoeira based in Oakland, California, founded by Mestre Tico Morais. We practice Capoeira, a dynamic, profound, and multi-faceted Afro-Brazilian art form that blends movement, music, play, cultural history, and ritual. Our school supports and welcomes adults, kids, families, beginners, and advanced students alike to learn, connect, and celebrate this living tradition.

At Ilê Axé Capoeira, we believe Capoeira is more than a martial art — it is a living tradition, a creative language, and a powerful pathway for personal and collective empowerment. Our school offers an inclusive space where students can learn and grow safely, respectfully, and as part of a true family. Through the intentional study of movement, music, traditions, and ancestry, students develop confidence in self-expression and a deeply embodied understanding of themselves and one another. We seek to honor the legacy of those who fought to lay the foundations of this enduring art by practicing Capoeira in a way that cultivates freedom — in the body, in the mind, and in our relationships with the world.
